The Gift of Water

At 4:00 a.m. last Saturday, Brian awoke with a start. "Did you hear that?" Nope. I hadn't heard a thing. So we went back to sleep. At 6:00 a.m. his cell phone rang. "Who in the hell is calling at this time on a Saturday morning?" It was sweet little Audrey from next door, alerting us to water in the basement.

Sure enough, we trooped down the stairs and *SQUISH* the carpet at the bottom of the landing was wet. We ended up with 1-2" of water in the basement.

The noise Brian heard was a stack of boxes (filled with china) falling onto the always-decorated Christmas tree. The bottom box got soggy & gave way.

The good news is that we didn't lose anything too precious. Although we did fill up a dumpster, we manged to save the things that really mattered.

And now the basement is completely organized & ready to be finished off. Back breaking work with all the wet stuff, but in the end...not too shabby!

Here's the source of the problem.

You can sort of see the level of where the water was.

When you live in a small town & know who to call ... you can get a dumpster delivered in 3 hours.

And you can spend the rest of the weekend filling it up!

And now all is contained in our soon-to-be store room.

The End.
